Ring Ouzel

Yesterday (Sunday), my black box beeped and the BirdGuides bird map showed a small square over The Lodge, with news of not just a Ring Ouzel, but also a Firecrest at The Lodge. A quick call to Dr Gurney and we were soon on site searching. We couldn't relocate either, although the RZ had been seen by volunteer Ben Andrew, so it counts towards our total. 111!

  1. "seen by volunteer Ben Andrew"... does this stretch the "RSPB employee or consultant" rule? Just wondering...

  2. Damn you Mark. I could have sworn I included vols...Nevertheless, I think it's only fair to let staff at the BTO decide whether or not the tick is valid.

  3. Pete Wilson (Dawn Balmer's husband) had a Peregrine on 4 Jan and despite them being scarce here (John Marchant still hasn't seen one; we had no guarantee there'd be any staff sightings), we didn't count it. Given how much he's done for BTO (inc volunteer surveying), Pete couldn't be much closer to 'staff'...

I'll let your conscience be your guide though, Darren!

  4. I think I'd probably have let you have that one Nick. However, RZ comes off...
